Fastest Piston Single Engine Aircraft - Rolls-Royce's "Spirit of Innovation" has officially become the world's fastest aircraft with the latest confirmation of two speed records. The aircraft, now certified by the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), surpassed the previous record of 555.9 km/h (345.4 MPH) by 3 kilometers (1.86 miles), with a speed of 213.04 km/h (132 MPH) recorded. It completed the 15 kilometer (9.32 mi) run at an average speed of 532.1km/h (330 MPH), beating the previous record of 292.8km/h (182 MPH).
"Achieving the world speed record is a fantastic achievement for the ACCEL team and for Rolls-Royce," said Rolls-Royce CEO Warren East. "I would like to thank our partners and especially the aviation company Electroflight for their collaboration to achieve this pioneering development. The advanced battery and propulsion technology developed for this project has exciting applications for the space mobility market.
